Change of Plans

Are you working towards a goal, and you feel like you are getting no closer to it?

You’re motivated and ready but not making any progress?

You need to go in a different direction. Not for long, but long enough to get a breakthrough. This isn’t looking for a distraction or looking to procrastinate. This is taking a direction with a specific goal. That goal is to help you get over your roadblock.

For example, I was stuck as to what to write for this week’s blog post. I wrote down a few things but nothing that was solid enough or interesting enough to continue with. I took out a book to work on some character development for the short story I’m working on. Even flipping through that book and doing a little bit of development for a character helped spark the idea for this post.

Don’t fear taking a side road. Side quests are plentiful in video games. Not are they usually fun but they can be a great distraction from the main quest when you are struggling with it. This can be super relatable to your own life. Pick out something that is different than what you are currently working on and set a bit of time aside to work on it. You could come out of that activity with a fresh set of eyes or ideas for your main goal.

Yes, persistence is a needed trait to achieve goals. At times brute force isn’t always effective. There will be parts of your goal where the only thing to do is do more of it. There will be times where you keep doing the same thing and keep making the same mistake and you don’t know how to fix it. This is prime opportunity to go a different direction.

You need to come up with new ideas. Try something new. You can be a creative person and still get stumped regularly. Having resources at hand to help you break those hurdles is a great way of continuing your journey.

The path to success may look like a straight line but it rarely ever is.
