Sickness, Delays, Getting It Done

We all get sick, and it sucks. You can sugar coat things all you want but there are some things that just aren’t great.

Sick

If you are human, you will more than likely get sick at some point. Maybe not life-threatening sickness but you might end up with a cold or a flu. Growing up there was a point where I thought it was normal to just push through and work through a sickness. As I got older it become less socially acceptable to show up to work sick. Understandably so, no one else wanted to get sick. Resting became more of a thing to help with sickness.

This post relates to the fact that last Saturday I woke up with Covid Symptoms which wasn’t surprising since my daughter and fiancée had already tested positive for Covid earlier that week. I tested positive on Monday. It affected me in a way where my work was going to take a hit. There won’t be any new colouring pages up for a bit. Thankfully, Monday I was able to come up with an outline for this blog post and Wednesday I was able to start writing it. Headaches for four days, a lack of energy and a super dry throat took the drive out of me. Fortunately, I was able to take days off work to recover. Sometimes you just must take the time to rest and recover before going back to doing what it is you do at full strength.

Delays

Deadlines are everywhere. Which ones do you fight to meet and which ones can you push until later? Deadlines in your day job or job where you are responsible to someone else can be difficult to push. There are times where you will have to put in extra time to get your work done on time. The first time you do something will take longer than the second time you do it. Simply because it is the first time you do it and there might be more to the process than what you are aware of. The more you do it, the faster you get. The faster you get the easier it becomes to manage deadlines.

Managing deadlines when you set them for yourself can be difficult. It is a lot easier to give yourself an out for not getting things done when you said you would. I am extremely guilty of this. It is something I am working on. Writing this blog, building Adrenaline Torch Studios is what is helping me get better at deadlines. I have the days that I want this blog being posted, the daily word count for the book and the days for the colouring pages. The daily word count for the book and colouring pages have been delayed by me being sick. The remedy to get back on track is to stick with the goal until I hit that, and then build in some extra time to catch up.

Getting Help

Something I am notoriously bad for is asking for help. I usually prefer to struggle or go without before I ask for help. Not my best quality. Being forced to not leave the house did help make it easier to ask for certain things. Fortunately, I have great group of people that I am surrounded by who are more than ready to help.

Getting it done

Nature doesn’t hurry, yet everything gets accomplished. Lao Tzu

Time is one aspect that you can only do so much to manipulate. You can outsource, you can pay for convenience, you can simply ignore, but time moves forward. Time is money is an expression that has been around since Benjamin Franklin’s essay in 1748. There is a lot of truth to that expression. At times we can take that to extremes. There are days where the best way to get things done is one thing at a time. Look for that next easy thing, that will give you some momentum. The more you build up that momentum the more you will accomplish.
